Opening Day
Saturday, April 20
Opening Day is all about honoring the traditions of yachting. It is the opening of the yachting season.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Vice Commodore Josef Davydovits.
The patriotic hymn was led by Rear Commodore Gil Morris.
Staff Commodore Mary Shebell delivered the Invocation.




Eight Bells were rung for our departed SGYC members.



Jr. Staff Commodore Dale Giali was inducted into the Order of the Blue Gavel by Mark Monroe.



New members, Dan and Pam Torla, visited the Chicago Yacht Club and exchanged burgees with them.

SGYC members who have served in the armed forces were honored by the membership.

SGYC Board members, Staff Commodores and visiting dignitaries were introduced.



Club officers were introduced as they ran their respective flags of office.


Each introduction was followed by a cannon salute.

Ceremonies began earlier in the day at the end of the Parde of the Fleet
with the membership salute to the officers, which was returned in kind.
